What it is
Open Data Communities is the UK government’s home for linked open data: official statistics from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), published as linked data you can browse or query. Pick a theme — deprivation, housing, local government finance, wellbeing, or government spending — and explore datasets and area profiles for the places you care about, with no code required. For deeper work, the platform exposes a public SPARQL 1.1 endpoint, so you can write queries that join these statistics with each other (and with other linked data) to build your own analysis, maps, or tools. The data is open under the Open Government Licence, attribution is the main obligation, and there is no account to create for browsing or querying. Honest boundaries: because this is official UK government statistics, it skews toward England and UK-wide themes rather than a general-purpose data warehouse, and the linked-data and SPARQL layer is where it truly shines — which makes it most powerful for researchers, analysts, and developers, while curious visitors can still wander the browsable datasets and area profiles.
